Telling your spouse

It can be overwhelming to tell your spouse that you want a divorce.  We often get phone calls from potential clients who are scared about beginning the divorce process.  They tell us they don’t know where to start.  At first, divorce seems frightening because you are opening up a door to a world of unknowns.  Where will I live? How often will I spend time with my kids?  How will I pay my bills?  This is why we often get phone calls from people that have not told their spouse yet that they want a divorce.  They want to get a sense of what a divorce actually involves, before crossing that line of discussing divorce with their spouse and making it really real.

At
Westfield Mediation, LLC we help clients break down the big process of divorce into smaller, more manageable steps. We help you address all of the unknowns, but not all at once.  In divorce mediation, both spouses are in the same room working together with a neutral mediator to address all the issues of the divorce- parenting plan, division of assets and debts, spousal support, and child support. We know how to make the “scary” process into a doable one. It is okay to do your research about the divorce mediation process to understand if it is right for you and then approach your spouse about getting a divorce and utilizing our services.

Telling your kids that you are getting divorced is a discussion for another day.  First, you need to tell your spouse.
