Divorce mediation is a great alternative to the stress and conflict of litigation because divorcing couples come together to create a fair agreement that works for their particular family. However, in our practice, your mediator is not your therapist. In divorce mediation, we work together to create a plan for the future. We focus on setting up your new life with a reasonable parenting and financial plan. In our meetings, we try not to rehash the arguments and circumstances that brought you to the decision to divorce, and instead look for practical solutions for moving forward.
That doesn’t mean that dealing with the emotional part of divorce is not important. So as part of the process, we often recommend counseling and divorce support groups. And for our clients who are not already seeking such assistance, we provide information about local resources. We help couples reach a workable agreement, while making sure that their emotional needs are also being met.
